Former Midway infielder Christian Colon finally got the call of which every minor leaguer dreams.

Colon made his Major League debut with the Kansas City Royals on Friday, going 3-for-4 against the Indians. He was not expected to be in the lineup, but when starting second baseman Omar Infante was scratched with lower back tightness, Colon got the nod.

“That was a lot of fun,” Colon told the Associated Press. “I was taking my ground balls (in pregame activities) and was told I was going to play.”

His first big league hit came in the third inning when Colon ripped a triple to the wall in center. He would add two more doubles, one coming in the ninth for his first RBI. He also scored three runs on the night.

“We had a great time. That’s what I told myself. Just go out there and enjoy and try to help win this ballgame,” Colon said.

Glaesmann has week to remember

Todd Glaesmann has been ripping through AA pitching lately.

The former Midway outfielder has had a week to remember. Glaesmann posted a .355 batting average, adding 11 hits, three of which were doubles.

He has helped the Mobile BayBears to a 6-1 record during that span, slapping five RBIs and swiping two bases.

Glaesmann also played quarterback at Midway and was a third-round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2009.

Turley flirts with no-no

Josh Turley brought his own fireworks to the mound Friday night.

Turley, sporadically mixing in his knuckleball, brought a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Tampa Yankees. Turley lost his no-hit bid that inning, but hurled eight strong innings, giving up just two hits while walking only three.

By allowing zero runs, Turley dropped his league-leading ERA to 1.69 in 90 1/3 innings pitched.

The former Baylor Bear and All-Big 12 pitcher has allowed only one run in his last 21 innings pitched.
