Describing Saturday’s game against Howard as “[A] day we are going to look forward to learning from and then forgetting,” head coach Mitch Thompson saw his McLennan Community baseball team fall to the Howard Hawks, 7-5, on a cold, blustery day at the Bosque River Ballpark. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was called due to the weather conditions.
The decisive inning was when the Hawks scored five runs in the top of the sixth. The Highlanders could only answer with one run in the bottom of the same inning, which closed out the scoring.
Mitchell Caskey had two hits, including a double, to lead MCC. China Spring product Brett Cain went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Howard.
MCC (8-2) will next play at home against Navarro at 2 p.m. Friday.
