Two local students were recently awarded Sport Luncheon Scholarships at the Greater Waco Chamber’s Tip Off Luncheon.
The scholarships are presented to students who have “shown exceptional leadership in athletics, academics and community outreach,” according to a statement from the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce.
Oglesby’s Anna Gomez and China Spring’s Benjamin May were this year’s recipients.
Gomez competes in volleyball, tennis, track and is a cheerleader. She’s also ranked No. 5 in her class and is involved in FCA, FFA, One Act Play and FCCLA, and will attend McLennan Community College and Texas Tech next year and plans on competing in the pole vault in college.
May is a member of the Cougars’ basketball and track teams. He is also on the National Honor Society, captain of the Academic Competition team and a PAL, and is ranked in the top 10 percent of his class. He plans on attending either Baylor or TCU and to major in sports medicine and hopes to be an athletic trainer for an NBA team or college basketball program.
