A mellow, fun-loving attitude has served the Lady Leopards well on their run through the playoffs.

Twenty-eight wins down, just two more to go.

Lorena’s softball team needs only two more wins to reach the state’s ultimate stage – the UIL state tournament in Austin. Lorena will face off against top-ranked Liberty Hill (36-2-1) in a three-game Region III-4A final series starting Wednesday.

The Lady Leopards (28-4) won an epic three-game series over Bridge City last week, with two of the games being decided by one run. Lorena won the decisive game, 2-1, in nine innings when Alana Alston connected for a two-out double to score Damiana Longo with the winning run.

The Lady Leopards will again rely on junior Rachel Williams (26-4, 1.02 ERA) in the circle. Though hits were harder to come by last week, Lorena also boasts some steady swingers with the likes of senior centerfielder Ashley Guyton (.419, 20 RBIs), senior third baseman Jordan Generals (.365, 31 RBIs), junior first baseman Emma Tindell (.366, 31 RBIs) and sophomore shortstop Kaci Donaldson (six home runs, 37 runs).

Liberty Hill scored 23 runs in two wins over Little Cypress-Mauriceville last week. The week before that, the Lady Panthers dispatched Lorena’s district mate Robinson in a three-game series.

Game 1 of the series is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday in Georgetown, while Game 2 is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Mary Hardin-Baylor University in Belton. A third game, if necessary, would follow.
