Waco High girls basketball coach Ross Barber has taken the head girls’ job at Tyler Lee, his alma mater.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to coach back home,” Barber said. “I felt like I wanted to go off and learn, and I’ve done that. But now I’m ready to take a shot at the bigger Class 6A level. Plus, I have a lot of family still there, so it’s a good move for me personally as well as professionally.”
Barber has worked with Waco ISD for nine years, including the past five as the Lady Lions head coach. He helped Waco High to four playoff appearances in that time, two district championships and a pair of trips to the regional quarterfinals, including this year.
Barber is a 2002 graduate of Tyler Lee.
He plans to bring his new team back to Waco for the annual M.T. Rice Tournament at Midway in December.
