District 17-4A isn’t supposed to be as easy as China Spring is making it look.

The Lady Cougars remained undefeated in district play with a 52-27 win over Hillsboro on Tuesday, and can sweep their way through the first half of district with one more win.

Summer Emblem scored 16 points to pace China Spring (19-6 overall, 5-0 in district), while Gabby Cleveland worked her way to 15 points.

Jade Bontke hit for 12 points to lead Hillsboro.

Lorena 31, Gatesville 26

Lorena’s gritty defense helped the Lady Leopards grind out a win over Gatesville in 17-4A action.

Michelle Runyan scored nine to lead Lorena, now 4-1 in district play. Rebekah Nolte swished in 10 points for Gatesville, which drops to 4-2.

Connally 51, Robinson 37

Miannah Little and Heaven Lang-Tucker had big nights as the Lady Cadets snapped a losing streak with a win over the Rockettes.

Little pumped in a game-high 25 points for Connally, which moves to 18-9 overall and 2-3 in District 17-4A competition. Lang-Tucker contributed 16.

Robinson, which is winless in five district contests, was topped by Brooke Ashcraft and Dyllan Doyle with seven points apiece.

University 59, Rudder 50

Four Lady Trojans scored in double figures to fuel a District 18-5A victory over Rudder.

Lyric McGowan and Sheridan Gamble led the way with 12 points apiece, Elaina Tate added 11 and Desirae Mathis scored 10. University moves to 3-2 in the district with the win.

Crawford 74, Harmony Science 6

Crawford used a balanced attack to roll over Harmony Science.

Ana Maddox hit for 16 points to lead the Lady Pirates. Anne Williams added 12, and Cecelia Villa and Kenzie Smith picked up 11 points apiece.


Rosebud-Lott 113, Chilton 33

Rosebud-Lott’s standout senior Ja’Quarion Johnson matched Chilton’s scoring output by himself, despite leaving the game in the third quarter, at which point the Cougars had scored 101 points.

Johnson lit up the nets for 33 points, while his teammate Jeremy Truesdale added 28.

Rudder 46, University 41

Despite 22 points from Justin Williams, the Trojans came up short in their attempt to garner their first district win.

University falls to 0-3 in the league, while Rudder remained perfect at 4-0.
