Breakdown: Cy-Fair is known for its defense this season, as the Bobcats are giving up just 11 points per game. Patrick Atkinson at linebacker leads the front seven and has a team-high in tackles with plenty of tackles for loss.
But this front seven hasn’t had to face as talented an offensive line as Midway possesses. The Panthers have a trio of Division I players, including Hakeem Grant and Kaitori Leveston, who signed with Texas Tech and Kansas State, respectively, on Wednesday.
The Bobcat defense also hasn’t faced a quarterback like Tanner Mordecai, who has led the Panther offense to average better than 45 points per game this year. He also signed on Wednesday to play at Oklahoma. And while Cy-Fair has a wealth of speed in the secondary, the Bobcats will have to choose which Panther wide receiver to shut down. C.J. Williams has been the man all season. Demarcus Degrate has made some unbelievable and timely catches the past few weeks. Then there’s D’Ante Thomas and Dart Smith to throw in the mix, as well as tight end and SMU commit David Priebe.
Whoever wins Saturday’s contest will secure its program’s first state championship in football.
