Former Baylor quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III (No. 10) is credited with rejuvenating Baylor’s athletics program.

Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III will hold a Salute to Fitness event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Ferrell Center.

All participants will meet and work out with Griffin, the former Baylor All-America quarterback who is entering his fourth season with the Washington Redskins.

“Robert considers Waco and Copperas Cove his home and wants to give back through this event and his foundation,” said Will Mallow, the director of development for Griffin’s Family of 3 Foundation. “All proceeds from the event are going back to needy families in Central Texas.”

The event will include an obstacle course challenge, a yoga workout and a kids field day competition. Workouts will be led by UNLV strength and conditioning coach Keith Belton.

There will also be a nutrition workshop that will be presented by professional nutritionists and dieticians and H-E-B will put on a healthy cooking demonstration.

Additionally, John Brenkus, the host of ESPN’s Sport Science, will speak on general nutrition and workouts.

“We want to get the area healthier all the way around and live vibrant lives,” Mallow said. “We’ll have various workout sessions, nutrition seminars and give people the tools to live healthy lifestyles.”

The event is open to people of all ages. Tickets are $50 for adults and $30 for children 12 and under. There are also a four-pack tickets available for $100 that can be used for adults or children.

Griffin starred at Baylor from 2008-11, setting 20 career records, including most career passing yards (10,366) and touchdowns (78), before moving on to the NFL’s Washington Redskins.
