The Baylor women’s basketball team had an adventurous journey home on Monday night after the Lady Bears defeated Nicholls State in Louisiana.
Baylor’s flight was diverted from landing in Waco because of fog and instead landed in Dallas, according to team spokesperson Jil Price. The Lady Bears then boarded a charter bus to come home, but the bus lost power and began smoking before it caught fire on the highway.
“Lady Bears are safe on the side of the road waiting for another bus,” Lady Bears assistant coach Toyelle Wilson tweeted, along with a photo of the broken-down bus. “The fire dept. has things under control. Just cold and want to get home.”
About an hour later, Baylor got on a new bus and headed south before arriving in Waco around 5 a.m. The Lady Bears won’t play again until the Big 12 opener Dec. 28 at Kansas State.
