Baylor volleyball’s Katie Staiger was named the Big 12’s offensive player of the week, while setter Hannah Lockin was honored as the conference’s freshman of the week on Tuesday.
Staiger won the honor for the second straight week, as she averaged 5.29 kills per set in the Bears’ 2-0 start to conference play. She hit at an efficient .413 clip.
Lockin led the Big 12 with 13.43 assists per set on the week, producing 54 total assists against Texas Tech and 40 in a three-set sweep of TCU. The freshman has started every match for the Bears this year.
Lockin and Staiger will lead Baylor (12-3, 2-0), winner of its last seven matches, into Austin to take on No. 5 Texas (9-2, 1-0) on Wednesday. The Bears have never beaten the powerhouse Longhorns in Austin, with an 0-37 all-time record there. The match will be televised on FSN, with a 7 p.m. start time.
