LUBBOCK — The Baylor track and field teams snagged three gold medals in the season-opening Texas Tech Corky Classic on Saturday at the new Sport Performance Center.
Baylor got wins out of junior Kiana Horton in the 200 (23.88), freshman Brooke Gilmore of Belton in the 3,000 (10:18.86) and the women’s 4x400 relay team (3:37.80). Forming that foursome for the Bears were Victoria Powell, Aaliyah Miller, Kiana Hawn and Leticia De Souza.
The women also nabbed four silver medals, from Tuesdi Tidwell (pole vault, 12-101/4), Alison Andrews-Paul (1,000, 2:49.06), Taylor Bennett (23.46 in 200) and Sarah Antrich (10:29.83 in the 3,000).
While the Baylor men didn’t grab a first-place spot in any event, the Bears had some strong showings, led by Caleb Dickson’s second-place effort in the 600-yard run (1:12.15) and the 4x400 relay’s silver medal (3:08.23).
Forty of the 55 competitors for Baylor at the meet were underclassmen.
The teams will return to action next Saturday at the Texas A&M Quadrangular.
