Kayla Gove scored the only goal 17 minutes into the game to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 1-0 exhibition win over the No. 14 Baylor soccer team Sunday night.
The game was played at Midway’s Rice Field due to new turf being installed at Baylor’s Betty Lou Mays Field.
Coming off last year’s Big 12 championship season and a run to the Elite Eight, the Bears have eight returning starters but came up empty against the Islanders, who are coming off a 5-9-3 season.
Baylor is expected to return to Betty Lou Mays Field for its second exhibition game against Texas State at 7 p.m. Saturday before playing its regular season opener against Northwestern State at 4 p.m. Aug. 25.
