Steve Smith, Baylor’s baseball coach for the last 21 seasons, will not return for the 2016 season. The announcement was released today by Vice President and Director of Athletics Ian McCaw.

“We are grateful for Coach Smith’s leadership of the Baylor baseball program and his many accomplishments over the last 21 seasons. We wish him much success and happiness in his future endeavors,” McCaw said.

The Bears’ season ended Saturday after a 4-0 loss to Texas in the Big 12 tournament semifinal. It capped a 23-32 season.

Smith leaves as the winningest coach in Baylor baseball history, with a record of 744-523-1. He led the Bears to three conference titles and one World Series appearance.

According to McCaw, a nationwide search to fill the position will begin immediately.
