After dropping a pair of games at UCLA over the weekend, the Baylor baseball team will return to the friendly confines of Baylor Ballpark on Wednesday when it hosts Texas State at 6:35 p.m.
The Bears (3-3) will be playing their first midweek game of the year after last week’s meeting with Dallas Baptist was washed out by rain. They’ll send left-hander Tyler Thomas (0-0, 1.93 ERA) to the mound opposite Texas State right-hander Zachary Leigh (0-0, 1.59).
The Bobcats, coached by Midway alum Ty Harrington, are 3-4 on the season, but took two of three games from McNeese State last weekend. Harrington is now cancer-free after being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2014.
Baylor’s hottest hitter on the young season is sophomore first baseman/catcher Andy Thomas, who is hitting a team-best .429 and carries a six-game hitting streak into Wednesday’s game.
Following Wednesday’s game, Baylor will head to the Frisco College classic at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, where they’ll face California on Friday, No. 9 Texas A&M on Saturday and Louisiana Tech on Sunday.
