Three Baylor athletes were honored as Big 12 Scholar Athletes of the Year on Thursday – baseball’s Richard Cunningham, golf’s Matthew Perrinne and women’s tennis player Blair Shankle.

To qualify for Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition, student-athletes must be a junior or senior in academic standing, possess a 3.20 grade point average or better, participate in at least 60 percent of the team’s scheduled contests and have a minimum of one year in residence at their institution.

Additionally, Shankle was named as an academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The NCAA Championships qualifier boasts a 3.98 grade point average while pursuing an accounting degree.
