WILLISTON, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont waste district has proposed five industrial sites for a new recycling plant.

The proposed sites are part of an ongoing search by the Chittenden Solid Waste District to replace the aging recycling facility in Williston.

Burlington Free Press reports that the sites were presented to the Chittenden Solid Waste District Board on March 18.

There is one proposed site in Milton, two in South Burlington and two in Williston. More sites will be presented in the future.

An official with the waste district says the existing facility reached its capacity in 2003 and has no room to expand.

Plans for the new plant include robotics and other technology to make sorting and shipping more efficient and to meet demands of a growing domestic recycled paper market.
