Ray Lewis

July 11, 1950 - Aug. 4, 2017

Ray Lewis, 67, of China Spring, fell asleep in death peacefully at his residence on Friday, August 4, 2017. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 12, at Lake Shore Funeral Home, with Bobby Johnson officiating.

Ray was born July 11, 1950, to Delma Bennett and adopted by Bill Lewis. During his lifetime he traveled all over the world with his parents. He joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school and served three tours in the Vietnam War.

He met and married Patricia Kathleen "Kathy" Street. They were together over 43 years and were joined together as one on October 26, 1973. From this union they had one daughter, Adrienne and one son, Waylan. As a family, they enjoyed fishing together and going to the kid's swim meets.

Ray was a red fish guide on Tradinghouse Reservoir where he acquired the nickname of Ray Filet. He was an avid bird hunter and bird watcher. He had extensive knowledge of God's creation and was so happy to learn that God's name is Jehovah! He accepted Jehovah as his God and Jesus as his Savior.

His mother; father; stepfather, Clifford Hodges; special brother, Mark Lewis; along with father-in-law, Leon Street, and sister-in-law, Joni Clingman, preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Kathy Lewis; daughter, Adrienne Lewis of Waco; son, Waylan Lewis and wife, Imelda, of San Antonio; and special grandson, Nathaniel Lewis who loved him dearly.

He will be missed by his brother, Larry and wife, Peggy Lewis, of El Paso; sister, Andrea and Michael Griffin of El Dorado, Illinois; in-laws, Len and Nelda Smith, Jim and Judy Hedge, Rob and Tanya Clingman, Kent and Elaine Street of Paignton, England; Donna and Eddie Qualls, Lorna and Rodney Parrish of Ft Worth, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ray had many fond memories of his friends Joel Butts, Larry Dickenson, Bill Vaughan, Tim McCracken, Joe Saucedo Jr, Joe Shirey, Steve Ferrari, Brian Golden, Jerry Ogden, John Schoff, Paul Barron and his spiritual brother, Bobby Johnson.

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea is no more. I also saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God and prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: "Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." And the One seated on the throne said: "Look! I am making all things new." Also he says: "Write, for these words are faithful and true." -Revelation 21:3-5.

My prayers and sympathy are extended to the family and loved ones of Mr. Lewis. Keep your faith in the resurrection promised at John 5:28, 29. Soon God will put an end to all sickness, sorrow and pain. He will also do away with our enemy death as promised at 1 Corinthians 15:26. Pray for God's kingdom to come as Jesus taught us to do. Please be comforted by the words expressed at Revelation 21:3, 4. Remember: God keeps His promises and it is impossible for God to lie!
