James LaMont

March 21, 1942 - Dec. 1, 2017

James "Jim" Allen LaMont, 75, of Waco, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017. A memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, December 10, at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, in Waco.

Jim was born on March 21, 1942, in Forest Glade, to Lydia Anna Pittman and Earl Allen LaMont. One of seven children, he was a born tinkerer and sparked an interest for mechanics by repairing bicycles. His skill set advanced quickly, and before long, one could be sure that if it had a motor, Jim could fix it. A proud business owner and racecar enthusiast, dreams came true for Jim in 1973, when he opened doors at Southwest Auto Repair in Waco. He was fondly known as Doc to his many customers and friends. Through the years, he owned many race cars, and spent many-a-night at the HOT Speedway. Jim was known by all for his welcoming nature. In addition to his children, many others were raised by his loving hand in one way or another.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lydia Pittman and Earl Allen LaMont; brothers, Earl Edward and Carl Eugene LaMont; sister, Ella Narrcie Kirkpatrick; and son-in-law, Billy Morgan.

Jim's loving memory is left to cherish by his wife of 53 years, Gaynell Walker LaMont; son, Earl LaMont and wife, Patricia; daughters, Sherrie Morgan-Cole and husband, Sambo Cole, and Debbie LaMont and husband, Ray Farrar; granddaughter, Elle LaMont; grandson, B.J. Morgan and wife, Crystal; great-granddaughter, Zayla Morgan; and sisters, Barbara Gaeke, Dorthea Baker and Linda Rodriquez.

My prayers and sympathy are extended to the family and loved ones of Mr. LaMont. Keep your faith in the resurrection promised at John 5:28, 29. Soon God will put an end to all sickness, sorrow and pain. He will also do away with our enemy death as promised at 1 Corinthians 15:26. Pray for God's kingdom to come as Jesus taught us to do. Please be comforted by the words expressed at Revelation 21:3, 4. Remember: God keeps His promises and it is impossible for God to lie!
