Lake Shore Drive fatality

Emergency responders and police work a fatal single-car crash on Lake Shore Drive near Airport Road on Friday afternoon. William "Bill" Harlan, 84, of Waco, died in the crash, police said.

Waco police on Saturday identified the driver who died in a one-car wreck on Lake Shore Drive on Friday afternoon.

William "Bill" Harlan, 84, of Waco, was killed when his sedan ran off the road and crashed into a tree in the 2300 block of Lake Shore Drive at about 3 p.m. Friday, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said in a press release.

Investigators were unsure Friday what caused Harlan to leave the road, and the investigation remains ongoing.

A McLennan County justice of the peace pronounced Harlan dead at the scene.
