Car shot

Police crime scene tape surrounds a car parked outside businesses in the 2400 block of West Waco Drive that was struck at least twice by gunfire Thursday afternoon. Police said no one was hurt.

Police are searching for a man suspected of shooting at another man Thursday afternoon in a strip mall parking lot on West Waco Drive.

Police believe the men were standing outside vehicles in a parking lot in the 2400 block of West Waco Drive at about 4 p.m. when one man opened fire. Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said another person was sitting in a white car outside the Look At Me Now Barber shop when the car was struck by gunfire, but no one was hurt.

"We got information that there was at least two individuals involved here, and when we arrived on scene, we learned that there were at least two suspects and one victim," Swanton said.

None of the businesses were involved in the incident, he said.

One man was detained about a block away, near 24th Street and Fort Avenue, Swanton said. The man was questioned, but officers said their preliminary investigation indicates he was not the shooter.

"We are still trying to determine that individual's involvement, but we believe he was just with the possible shooter," Swanton said.

No one has been arrested in what police are calling an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon investigation. Officials believe the shooter ran south from the businesses after the shooting.

Police continued searching the area Thursday evening.
