The city of Waco closed Cameron Park’s River Trail Friday due to extremely wet conditions.
Parks and recreation department officials said the Brazos River is extremely high and two bridges along River Trail are submerged.
Using trails in wet conditions causes long-term damage to the trees and the soil, officials said in a press release. The closure is to preserve the beauty and accessibility of the trail system, the release said.
River Trail has large mud puddles that are getting wider from people circumventing the areas and forming rogue trails. Going through and around the puddles only makes them larger, causes ruts and accelerates erosion, the release said.
Other trails such as Mix Master and Drain Pipe have similar problems, but at this time only River Trail is closed.
