Karen Petree, a 2007 Baylor University graduate, is helping organize a rally of current and former Baylor students who were sexually assaulted at Baylor.

Calling the rally Un-silence the Survivors, the group will meet at 8 p.m. Friday in front of Pat Neff Hall and observe a moment of silence, Petree said.

Members of the group will wear tape across their mouths with the victims’ first names written on it.

“We also will write a letter to Baylor asking for a survivors’ seat at the table to discuss what changes are being made and getting some insight to those who have survived it,” Petree said. “It will be a silent demonstration. It is not meant to be a protest but more of a demonstration of support for these victims.”

Petree said 28 current and former Baylor students have joined a survivors group on Facebook and communicate there. Petree said she hopes more are encouraged to come forward through their efforts.

“I think that as more and more are willing to come forward, it will help others decide to do so and to help break that stigma that is still associated with sexual assault. But it is asking so much of these victims to do that, because there is still that stigma and because there are people who have been attacking these women for wrecking their football team,” she said.
