Reza-Reza Gerardo

A Lacy Lakeview man remains jailed after his arrest Monday evening after a traffic wreck left two women dead.

Gerardo Reza, 39, a roofer, remained in the McLennan County Jail on Tuesday under bonds totaling $200,000. He is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.

Reza was arrested about 5 p.m. Monday after the accident at Air Base Road and Pecan Lane in Bellmead.

Bellmead police identified the victims of the crash as Robin Brown, 38, and Cherie Shupert, 25, both of Waco.

Both women were in the supervisory training program at Sanderson Farms, a large poultry processing company.

“We miss them,” said a Sanderson Farms human resources supervisor, who declined to give his name without approval from corporate offices.

Bellmead police Detective Mike Miller said Shupert was driving west on Pecan Lane and stopped at a stop sign. When she started up again, her Chevrolet Malibu was struck by Reza, who was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck south on Air Base Road. Shupert and Brown both were wearing seat belts.

Bellmead police continue to investigate the accident and will try to determine how fast Reza was driving at the time of the collision, Miller said.

Justice of the Peace W.H. “Pete” Peterson pronounced the women dead at the scene.

Reza was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries before being booked into the jail.
