A former executive officer of the Waco Association of Realtors, who police say embezzled $53,000 from the association over a three-year period, was indicted Wednesday by a McLennan County grand jury.

Sharron Ann Jones, 66, who was arrested in October on felony theft charges, was indicted by the grand jury panel on third-degree felony charges.

An audit revealed Jones, of Waco, embezzled $53,010 between January 2013 and December 2015, according to records filed in the case. Jones wrote unauthorized checks from the association made out to “cash” and deposited them in a personal account during the three-year period, an arrest affidavit states.

Jones left her position with the association during the police investigation, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said. He said the association cooperated with the police investigation.

Jones remained free on bail Wednesday.
