Waco resident Gladys Linstrum McDonald turns 105 on Sunday.
She was born Nov. 12, 1912, in Waco to the Rev. Oscar E. Linstrum and Lily Caroline Linstrum. Her father was a Methodist minister and her mother was a homemaker. She had three brothers and two sisters.
She married A.J. McDonald in 1938 and they were married for 66 years. They owned and operated McDonald Supply Inc., which had locations in Waco, Temple, Austin and San Antonio. She worked in the business during its early years.
They had two children, Carolyn McDonald Anderson, of Waco, and Andrew Dan McDonald, who died in 1982.
She has four living grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Gladys is a member of First United Methodist Church in Waco.
A.J. and Gladys traveled the world many times. Gladys enjoyed playing gin and bridge before they retired to ranching at Eagle Creek Ranch in Jonesboro for 19 years. There she taught the family about gardening and canning.
Family members say that “Gram” is the heart of the family.
