Those who follow the local jazz scene know pianist Dave Wild from his frequent appearances at Waco-area clubs and restaurants.
At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, he'll play a new series at downtown Waco's Cultivate 7twelve, 712 Austin Ave. It's aimed at offering local musicians an opportunity to perform music for music's sake, rather than the sonic wallpaper that some restaurants and club owners want or the standards and covers that many listeners gravitate toward. It's going to be a night of original music by Wild on piano, with no backing players or combo.
Guitarist Chuck Jennings, a Waco player with a considerable talent and a big city resume that includes Manhattan clubs, is behind Cultivate Sound Sessions.
It kicked off Jan. 24 with Slide Tradition, a program by trombone players Josh and Matt Porter, and Wild is the second artist to appear. The next two weeks are open before the Wednesday night series continues again. Those interested in more information can contact Jennings at firstname.lastname@example.org or on Facebook.
