Under NCAA rules, football teams can’t don full pads until the fifth practice.

The first two practices are without pads and the next two are with partial pads. By that fifth practice, players are itching to hit somebody.

Thursday marked Baylor’s third practice, and the players took on a more aggressive tone. During drills, they were hitting each other harder even though they weren’t in full pads.

Baylor’s fourth practice will be open to the public Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. as part of the annual “Meet the Bears” event. The Bears won’t hold a scrimmage since they can’t wear full pads until the fifth practice.

Players and coaches will be available for autographs at 12:30 p.m. at the Allison Indoor Practice Facility.

It will be a nice appetizer for the fans before the Aug. 31 season opener against SMU at McLane Stadium.
