To our readers
It’s one thing to cover an election, and quite another to hold one.
The Waco Tribune-Herald has been covering elections for more than a century, but this is only our second year to conduct the H.O.T. Reader’s Choice Awards. As we go to press with our 2011 winner’s section, we’re reflecting on three things that are abundantly clear:
1. Trib readers are extremely passionate about the products and services that we enjoy in our community.
2. The business owners and employees who serve our community take great pride in what they do.
3. Counting hundreds of thousands of votes is quite an undertaking – especially when you don’t have voting machines.
Almost 9,000 ballots were cast in the 165 categories of the 2011 H.O.T. Reader’s Choice contest. The results of those votes are in the section that you hold in your hands today. Congratulations to all the winners, and to the Trib readers who won $100 in our Reader’s Choice drawing: Tina Kreder of West, Hannah Hull of Woodway and Terrence Hazel of Waco.
Most importantly, thanks to the folks who make local businesses successful – the friends, neighbors and customers who are the readers of your hometown newspaper.
Sincerely,
Donnis Baggett
