Recent Vanguard graduate and TAPPS Class 3A District 2 state champion Kaitlyn Cummings had yet another phenomenal showing at a tournament this past week, tying for ninth place in the Texas State Junior Championship.
Cummings fired a 72-78-69—219, with her last round coming in as the second-lowest score of the day.
“I think I hit it really well all week,” Cummings said. “It was a tournament full of great competitors. I knew to get into the leaders I needed to shoot really low on the last day, so I’m pleased that I did that.”
Cummings, joining Houston Baptist’s golf squad in the fall, is keeping herself busy this summer. Cummings will join 37 other golfers in Houston on Aug. 3-4, competing in the Texas Collegiate Tour’s Championship at the Golf Course of Houston. Cummings sees the tournaments at tune-ups for her upcoming career.
“Playing in these tournaments helps a lot,” Cummings said. “I try to play as much as I can to get used to the good competition. I think it makes me play to the best of my ability.”
