It’ll be an all-Texas final for the right to go to Williamsport.
Brennan Greer pounded two of Texas West’s four home runs to propel his team to a wild 19-13 victory over Louisiana in the semifinals of the Southwest Regional Little League Baseball Tournament on Tuesday night at Norcross Stadium.
Texas West, representing San Antonio’s McAllister Park Little League, advances to face Texas East out of Lufkin for the regional title at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
Tuesday’s game was a slugfest throughout, as the teams combined for 37 hits in six innings of back-and-forth baseball. Louisiana led 4-2 after one inning, but Texas West was just getting started. It put together a seven-run bottom of the second, then took the lead for good with a seven-run fifth.
Carson Winchester went 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs to pace Texas West at the plate. But he had plenty of help – Max Williams and Sean Pettit banged out three hits each, and 10 different players had at least one hit.
Louisiana gamely fought to the end, clubbing 17 hits in the losing effort. James Bendeck went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored to lead Louisiana. Reed Duthru went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Casey Avrard contributed two hits.
Sam Armstrong recorded the win out of the bullpen for Texas West, picking up four outs and striking out two.
Texas West trailed 13-12 entering the bottom of the fifth, but wasted no time in mounting an epic rally. They took the lead on a two-run double from Lucas Gary, and proceeded to tack on five more runs thereafter.
Gary finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
The Texas West-Texas East clash will be a rematch of a classic battle from Saturday, won by Texas East, 11-10, in seven innings. The winner will advance on to represent the Southwest Region at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, which will run from Aug. 17-27.
