For nine area Little League clubs, summer vacation can wait.

It’s on to the sectional tournaments for those teams that claimed District 9 championships last week. Sectional play will begin on Wednesday, as teams try to qualify for the state tournament and keep their all-star seasons going.

West’s Little League Complex will serve as the host for the sectional softball action. Lake Air won the district championship in the majors (11-12) division, and will open up play at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday against the District 7 champion, out of the Fort Worth area. Those two teams, the only ones to advance to this particular sectional tournament, will meet again at 6 p.m. Thursday, with an if-necessary game slated for 2 p.m. Saturday.

Also moving on to sectional play in West are Midway, the district champ in the 8-10 girls division, and Lorena, the junior softball champion.

The Central Texas all-stars out of Killeen won the District 9 title in the senior softball division, but will bypass sectionals and advance on to state because there were no other sectional qualifiers in senior softball.

Midway opens up play at 6 p.m. Wednesday against the District 7 champ, while Lorena’s junior all-stars kick off their sectional run at 8:15 p.m. Thursday.

For the District 9 baseball champions, the sectional tournaments are slated for various locations. Midway’s major all-stars, which defeated Lake Air, 4-3, to win the district crown, are the only Central Texas club that will get to stay relatively close to home. Midway will open up against the District 5 champion at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday in West. Midway’s game will start right after the Districts 7 and 8 winners battle at 6 p.m.

West won the 8-10 baseball division and will head to Abilene for sectionals.

Midway won the 9-11 title and is bound for Fort Worth, as are the junior baseball champs from West.

Southern won the senior District 9 title and will venture to Abilene for sectionals.
