Waco fisherman misses Bassmaster Classic cut

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Waco pro fisherman Alton Jones missed the cut at the Bassmaster Classic after ranking 27th after the first two days of competition on Lay Lake.

Jones actually caught the big bass of the day at five pounds, one ounce, but he bagged only one other fish to end up with a total of 7-5 for the day and 14-1 for the tournament.

The top 25 in the standings advanced to today’s final round, with Jeff Kriet, of Ardmore, Okla., leading the way at 32-1.

Jones won the Classic in 2008.
