Who needs cupcakes at the start of the season? The No. 1-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders will again sink their teeth into another fierce non-conference foe when they face No. 6 Linfield College at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in McMinnville, Ore.
UMHB (1-0) and Linfield (1-0) are familiar foes, and the Crusaders have had the Wildcats’ number of late, winning each of the past three meetings. That includes a 27-10 win in Belton last November in the Division III playoffs.
UMHB coasted to a 27-10 win over Sul Ross State last weekend in the team’s opener. Quarterback T.J. Josey passed for a pair of touchdowns and added 91 yards rushing in the Crusaders’ victory. Linfield, meanwhile, also got off to a winning debut, picking up a 27-12 road win over Chapman University.
UMHB junior receiver Denerian Thomas, a former Mart star, needs 109 yards to tie Shaun Rochon for 10th place on the program’s all-time receiving list.
