Another game, another win.
McLennan Community College baseball, ranked No. 6 currently, routed Midland, 18-1, Friday at the Bosque River Ballpark. The Highlanders are now 5-0 on the season.
Unlike the previous games, MCC decided to start their scoring in the first inning with a Josh Breaux home run. They scored two more in the second and one in the fourth and fifth. Midland’s lone run was scored in the fifth.
The Highlanders then scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Their final runs came in the eighth.
Logan Freeman opened the game with eight strike outs in four and one-third innings. Nick Urbantke is credited with the win. Dylan Neuse went three for five with a double, a home run and four RBIs. Breaux, in addition to his home run, went three for six with 2 RBIs.
“When you look back at today, we had a really nice pitching performance from Freeman as a starter but also from Urbantke and Max Mize out of the bullpen,” said head coach Mitch Thompson. “As a coach, one of the things that really makes you feel good about your ballclub from time to time is especially when your bullpen is able to come in and really throw the ball well. Today, it was obvious that our bullpen did. Between Urbantke and Mize, they threw 4 2/3 innings, over half the ballgame; they struck out seven and gave up two hits. That’s a really nice performance. Our pitching staff only giving up five hits and one run, and striking out 15 Midland hitters, we will take that every day.”
MCC hosts Midland Saturday in a doubleheader, with the first game starting at noon at the Bosque River Ballpark.
