The McLennan College Highlassies traveled to Temple Saturday afternoon hoping to snap a two-game losing streak and sweep their biggest rival. MCC’s hopes were dashed as the ‘Lassies were handed a third loss in a row, 76-64, in Temple.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, with Temple’s Lady Leopards taking a lead of 17-6 3:38 to go in the first quarter. MCC (14-13, 7-6 conference) fought back, with the half ending 28-27 in favor of the Lady Leopards.

The Highlassies were able to build an eight point lead midway through the third period, 43-35. They could not hold that lead, and Temple was able to regain the lead early in the fourth quarter, and the ‘Lassies were never able to take the lead again.

Highlassie Jaylonn Walker recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Velma Mitchell was MCC’s highest scorer with 26 points.

The ‘Lassies close out the season with a game against Hill College in Hillsboro Wednesday at 5 p.m.
