The sixth-ranked Highlander baseball team has had its eyes set on the national tournament from the first pitch of the first game this season.

With MCC facing Howard Friday at 8 p.m. at the Region V North Tournament opener in Lubbock, head coach Mitch Thompson knows their road to Grand Junction begins now.

“We are coming into it with a great mindset,” he said. “ The guys have played incredibly well all year. This group’s goal all year is to get to Grand Junction and have a chance to win it and I know they will give it their very best.”

The Highlanders have beaten Howard twice this year and lost once, scoring a total of 31 runs in that trio of games. But Thompson knows you can throw records out the window when the postseason rollas around.

“Obviously we are really excited to be here in Lubbock agains and representing McLennan and competing for the Region V Championship,” Thompson said. “Any of the eight teams can win with four top-20 teams, so it’s a dog fight.”
