John McClain, longtime NFL writer for the Houston Chronicle, was honored as McLennan Community College’s Distinguished Alumnus this week.

McClain graduated from MCC in 1973 before going on to study journalism at Baylor. He worked for MCC’s Highlander Herald, the Baylor Lariat and the Waco Tribune-Herald before joining the staff of the Chronicle in 1976.

In 2006, McClain was honored with the Dick McCann Memorial Award for his long career in covering the NFL, earning him a plaque in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“I wouldn’t be where I am without the foundation in journalism I received from the Highlander Herald and my years at MCC,” McClain said.
