McLennan Community College’s basketball teams will strive to stay perfect in conference play when they travel to Weatherford for a women’s and men’s doubleheader on Wednesday.

The 14th-ranked Highlanders (19-1 overall, 2-0 in conference) are riding a 14-game winning streak. Lately, MCC has really tightened the straitjacket defensively, giving up just 56.3 points in its last three games.

Weatherford (13-8, 1-2) is coming off a 92-89 road loss to Hill, but the Coyotes are tough at home, with a 10-3 record.

The MCC women (10-7, 3-0) sit all alone atop the conference standings. Jaylonn Walker, a sophomore guard from Calvert, ranks second in the conference in scoring at 16.1, behind only Weatherford’s Masha Vasilevko (18.3). Weatherford (10-6, 2-1) is one of four teams in a two-way tie for second behind the Highlassies in the league standings.

The women’s game will tip at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game.
