Xavier Armstead scored a team-best 19 points as the 16th-ranked McLennan Community College Highlanders spurned North Lake, 90-71, on Saturday afternoon at The Highlands.
MCC (16-1) trailed 41-40 at the half, and led only 65-60 at the 9:53 mark of the second half. But then the Highlanders found their stroke from beyond the arc, as Aaron Gregg and Armstead bottomed out consecutive 3-pointers to fuel the Highlanders’ closing surge.
Antoine Banks chipped in 16 points for MCC, as one of four players in double figures. Jashawn Talton and Jordan Skipper-Brown added 12 and 10, respectively. Brady Boyd hit for 18 points to lead the visiting Blazers, the defending national champions in NJCAA Division III.
MCC will close out the nonconference part of its schedule at home on Tuesday, as they face Concordia University’s JV team at 6 p.m.
