Ex-Waco High Lion Silmon takes 1st in heat in Canada

MONCTON, New Brunswick — Ex-Waco High sprinter Charles Silmon took first in his 100 heat with a 10.33-second time and advanced at the junior world championships.
“(I) just cruised the last 40 (meters). I’m feeling like I can win this thing,” Silmon said after the race.
Ex-Lorena pole vaulter Mark Thomas didn’t qualify for the final after clearing 16 feet, 2 3/4 inches. He placed eighth in his group. Baylor’s Christina Holland will compete starting Thursday in the 400 hurdles.
