LORENA – After it won 38 volleyball matches last year and reached the regional tournament, Lorena knew it would be tough to top that season in 2017.
But the Lady Leopards are making winning a habit.
Behind 12 kills from Kenzie Tuyo, Lorena easily dispatched Hillsboro, 25-13, 25-15, 25-13, to remain perfect in District 17-4A play on Tuesday night.
Mallory Ross contributed eight kills for Lorena (20-11, 4-0), while Jacey Moore, Mackenzie Smith and Blaze Runyan added six each. Kynlee Bartosh handled the offensive flow with superb ability at setter, delivering 38 assists.
West 3, Groesbeck 0
WEST — When it comes to district volleyball supremacy, few area programs can stand with Sandy Dickerson’s West Lady Trojans.
West — which hasn’t lost a district match in more than two full seasons and is seeking a fourth straight district title — kept up its winning ways with a 25-14, 25-21, 25-20 triumph over Groesbeck on Tuesday.
West (24-7 overall, 4-0 in District 19-3A) will be back on the court on Friday at home against Clifton.
#2 Crawford 3, Abbott 0
Morgan Claxton powered 16 kills, and the second-ranked Lady Pirates shredded Abbott, 25-9, 25-12, 25-7, to remain unblemished in District 13-2A.
Crawford (28-6, 7-0) received five kills apiece from Baylee Griffith and Nielee Plemons. The Lady Pirates also showed a nice touch from the service line, led by Peyton Elmore’s five aces.
Multi-time Super Centex standout Haley Vaughn dished out 32 assists to go with two kills and two aces.
Midway 3, Belton 0
BELTON — The Pantherettes are getting into gear in district play.
Midway took down Belton, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18, to win its fourth straight district match without dropping a single set in that time frame.
Midway (12-13 overall, 4-0 in District 8-6A) will be back on the road on Friday night against Copperas Cove. Belton drops to 18-11 on the year and 1-2 in district.
