HILLSBORO — It’s tough to catch a Leopard when it’s surging.

Lorena’s 20th-ranked volleyball team received 12 kills from Mallory Ross in claiming its sixth straight win, 25-13, 25-9, 25-12, over district rival Hillsboro on Tuesday.

The Lady Leopards (26-6 overall, 4-0 in District 17-4A) haven’t lost in the month of September, nor have they even dropped a set in that span. Lorena’s last defeat came at the hands of Class 3A’s top-ranked Leon in late August.

Bailey Allison and Jacey Moore chipped in nine kills apiece, while Ashlyn Sorrells delivered 39 assists to go with six digs. Maddie Miller paced the defensive effort with 16 digs.

China Spring 3, La Vega 0

At La Vega, the Lady Cougars made short work of the Lady Pirates, 25-13, 25-9, 25-12.

China Spring’s Raelynn Faulkner smashed seven kills and hammered three service aces, while Whitney Reinke also cashed in from the service line with three aces.

For La Vega, Ronadre Kendricks and Mikayla Rhodes both had three kills.

Gatesville 3, Connally 0

At Gatesville, Madison Carpenter kept the offense humming with 28 assists, and the Lady Hornets buzzed past the Lady Cadets.

Rosie Lee led a balanced attack for Gatesville (24-7 overall, 3-1 in 17-4A) with seven kills, while Sadie Matthews added six and Macey Matthews had five.

Midway 3, Belton 0

At Midway, the top-ranked Pantherettes took care of business in dominating fashion, dispatching the Lady Tigers, 25-12, 25-12, 25-10.

Midway (29-2 overall, 4-0 in District 8-6A) claimed its 22nd straight win, as the Pantherettes haven’t lost since a mid-August match against Clear Creek.

Samantha Sanders belted 14 kills and Allye Beth Deaton had 13 kills and eight digs.

Crawford 3, Abbott 0

At Abbott, Caitlin Plemons powered the 10th-ranked Lady Pirates to their fourth district win in four attempts, sweeping the Lady Panthers, 25-18, 25-12, 25-14.

Anne Williams whacked 10 kills to go with five digs and one ace, while super setter Haley Vaughn fed her hitters for 40 assists.

Crawford (23-7 overall, 4-0 in District 13-2A) should get its stiffest challenge of the district schedule on Friday, with a road match at Blum.

West 3, Groesbeck 0

In West, Kiersten Woodard blasted 14 kills and the Lady Trojans remained perfect in district play, goring the Lady Goats, 25-16, 25-23, 25-22.

Woodard had some solid help from her West teammates, as Mary Kate Janek contributed nine kills and Mia Pokluda tagged eight.
