WEST — Live Oak will get another shot at a state championship.
After coming up just a win shy of the title a year ago, the Lady Falcons moved back to the doorstep with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-12 sweep of Bryan St. Joseph on Thursday night in the TAPPS Class 2A volleyball state semifinals.
Bailey Keith, the national leader in kills, was on her game again, blasting 25 kills for the Lady Falcons to go along with nine digs.
Live Oak (33-7) will face Lubbock All Saints Episcopal (24-12) for the state title at 3 p.m. Friday in West.
Centex trio set for UIL regional tourneys
A trio of Central Texas teams will try to move closer to the UIL state volleyball tournament in Garland beginning Friday.
No. 1-ranked Crawford (42-7) will face Lindsay in the Region II-2A tournament in Weatherford, at 7 p.m. Friday. Should the Lady Pirates win, they’ll move on to Saturday’s regional final to face the winner of Blue Ridge and Thrall. Crawford has fared well in odd-numbered years, reaching the state tournament in 2013 and ’15.
Meanwhile, Blum and Coolidge will both compete at the Region II-1A tournament in San Angelo. The Lady Yellowjackets will face Tioga at 5 p.m. Friday in the first semifinal, while Blum follows against Bryson in the other semifinal. The regional final is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.
