MANSFIELD — Lewisville Hebron gave Midway the heave-ho from the Class 6A volleyball playoffs for the second straight year.
Third-ranked Hebron, the two-time defending 6A state champ, handed Midway a 25-16, 25-12, 25-12 in the area round of the playoffs on Friday night at Timberview High School.
The Hawks (37-7) move on to the regional quarterfinals and a heavyweight clash against Plano West next week. Midway closes its season at 20-18, its fifth straight season of at least 20 wins.
Plano West 3, Belton 0
HILLSBORO — Plano West ousted the Lady Tigers from the Class 6A playoffs with a 25-15, 25-12, 25-21 victory at Hillsboro’s Eagle Gym.
Belton, which had advanced to the area round with a four-set win over DeSoto earlier in the week, concludes its season at 26-15.
La Grange 3, Robinson 1
ROCKDALE — Familiar playoff rivals in many sports, La Grange and Robinson pushed one another, but the Lady Leopards eliminated the Rockettes in four sets in their Class 4A area-round clash.
Nevertheless, it was a strong season for Robinson (29-14), which went 10-2 in district play and then swept Palestine in its bi-district matchup.
Live Oak 3, Shiner St. Paul 0
NEW BRAUNFELS — The powerful Lady Falcons had little issue with Shiner St. Paul, picking up a 25-19, 25-13, 28-26 win in the TAPPS Class 2A quarterfinals.
Live Oak (32-8) is trying to reach the TAPPS state final for a second straight year, as the Lady Falcons finished a win shy of a title last season. They’ll play the Spring Providence-St. Joseph winner in the state semifinals.
