Lorena’s girls cleaned up on their home track, picking up a bevy of titles at the area track meet for Districts 17 and 18 on Wednesday.
Among the gold medalists for the Lady Leopards: Baylor signee Tiffani Peacock in the pole vault title at 11-6, Alana Armstrong in the triple jump at 37-3½, Alesis Juntunen in the shot put at 37-9, Heidi Scarborough in the high jump at 5-2, Jacey Moore in the discus at 123-1 and McKenzie Tuyo in the 100 at 11.98.
Gatesville’s Jordan Brock advanced to regionals with wins in the 400 (57.88) and 800 (2:16.82). Those times rank as the top in Central Texas in both races.
Peacock also finished second in both the 100 and 300 hurdles. Connally’s Sha’rell Houff won the 100-meter hurdles title, while Hillsboro’s Jade Bontke took first in the 300 event.
On the boys’ side, China Spring’s Riley Richards, the state leader in the pole vault, had no issue cruising ahead to regionals, clearing 16-6 to take victory.
Connally’s Ronnie Briscoe claimed wins in both the 300 hurdles, running 39.54, and in the long jump, where he soared 23-9. La Vega’s Sir Morgan Loudd made plenty of noise as well, claiming a win in the triple jump (47-11¾) while also running legs on the Pirates’ victorious 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.
These athletes and other top performers at the meet will compete at the Region III-4A Championships on April 28-29 at Sam Houston State’s Bowers Stadium in Huntsville.
