BRYAN — Robinson’s Noah Wingate dominated Bellville’s Westin Jablonowski, 6-1, 6-0 to win the Class 4A Region III boys’ singles championship and advance to the state tournament at Bryan High School.
Wingate, whose brother Jacob reached the 3A state final last year, didn’t drop more than two games in any set on his way to the title and will be joined at state by teammates Caleb Diller and Megan Litton, who won a mixed doubles playback in three sets over China Spring’s Harrison Dunham and Erin White for second place.
Groesbeck’s best result came from the boys’ doubles team of Noah Basden and Logan Boecker, who finished third. That left the Goats without an entry at the state tournament for the first time since 1988 — ending a streak of 26 years with at least one. Region III-2A: In Corsicana, Crawford had three entries advance to the state tournament, while Chilton added two and Dawson and Bremond one apiece.
The Crawford mixed doubles team of Andy McAlister and Melissa Tanner defeated Bremond’s Hamilton Hull and Kaylee Wiley for the regional title, 6-4, 6-4, with Hull and Wiley reaching state as the second-place finisher.
Chilton’s Ernesto Fernandez defeated Crawford’s Dylan Lane in the boys’ singles final, 6-4, 6-2, and Dawson’s girls’ doubles team of Sophia Krammerer and Megan Freeland downed Crawford’s Katy Baur and Jaycee Williams in the title match, 6-2, 6-3. Neither Lane nor Baur and Williams had to survive a playback and move on to state.
Chilton’s Melissa Tye also reached state by making the final before falling, 6-2, 6-2, to Brookeland’s Brittany Lendo.
Region II-2A: In McKinney, Itasca and Hamilton will both send one entry to state.
Itasca’s Luis Ortiz and G.B. Macias cruised past Era’s Jacob Metzler and Jonathan Moore, 6-3, 6-0, in the boys’ doubles final, while Hamilton’s Brooke Tomlinson fell in the semifinals of girls’ singles, but won the third-place match and a playback, 6-0, 6-0 over Goldthwaite’s Brynne McCasland for a second-place finish.
Region III-1A: In Stephenville, Iredell had a field day at the regional tournament and will send six entries to state.
Iredell’s Ayla Coffell defeated teammate Lana Lentschke, 6-1, 6-3 in the girls’ singles final, and its girls’ doubles team of Alexis Argott and Kaelyn Clark downed teammates Madison Ogburn and Hannah Fowler, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Lentschke didn’t have to go to a playback, but Ogburn and Fowler did and claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Strawn’s Jackie Berumen and Cori Pollock.
Iredell’s Garrett Fletcher and Micah Wellborn took the boys’ doubles crown with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 win over Aaron Martinez and Charlie Musick of Blanket, and Tanner McDonald and Ally Johnson won mixed doubles over Kopperl’s Jakob Wood and Alex Thompson, 7-5, 6-4.
Region IV-1A: In Round Rock, Bynum’s Regina Hauser defeated Lometa’s Grace Masonheimer, 6-3, 6-3, for Central Texas’ only state entry out of that region.
