CORPUS CHRISTI — West’s Bailey Rogers picked up a silver medal at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state meet Saturday.

Competing in the 198-pound class, Rogers lifted a total of 935 pounds in the squat, dead lift and bench press disciplines, only 10 pounds behind state champion Sydney Calderon of Monahans.

Among other Central Texas lifters, Hillsboro’s Doynelia Hughes finished second in the 148-pound division in Class 3A, lifting 870 pounds. Belton’s Chloe Lewis and Gatesville’s Kaydee Sexton garnered bronze medals in their respective divisions.

The boys’ state powerlifting meet will be next weekend in Abilene.
