CORPUS CHRISTI — Temple’s Timmea Joiner gave Central Texas another state title on the final day of the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting State Meet Saturday.
Joiner, a senior, snatched gold in the 220-pound division of Class 5A. She racked up a 400-pound squat, a 195-pound bench press and a 455-pound deadlift for a total of 1,050 pounds. That was enough to beat Gregory-Portland’s Luciana Zamora by five pounds.
In Class 4A, the top finish by an area lifter came from Gatesville’s KayDee Sexton, who was fifth in the heavyweight division at 975 pounds.
