ABILENE — Crawford’s Cody Villa powered to a gold medal, plus a state record to boot.
Villa won the state title in the 123-pound class at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state meet Saturday. Villa’s 1,090-pound weight total was 45 pounds better than the nearest challenger, and he also set a state record with a 480-pound dead lift.
Teague’s Ryan Mitchell dominated in winning the 275-pound state title. His total of 1,840 was more than 200 pounds better than the field.
Axtell’s Dylan Haralson captured a silver medal in the 148-pound division.
In Division II, Mexia’s Quavious Gamble claimed a silver medal in the 242-pound class, lifting 1,585 pounds.
