CORPUS CHRISTI — Several Central Texas athletes showed off their strength at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State Meet Friday.

Moody’s Elizabeth Warren won a gold medal in the 97-pound weight class of Class 1A/2A. Warren lifted a total of 315 pounds in the squat, dead lift and bench press to seize the state title.

Central Texas also brought home a trio of silver medals in the 1A/2A division. Moody’s Beth Bounds captured second in the 198-pound division, lifting 910 pounds. Axtell’s Brittany Frillou took second in the 165-pound class, hoisting 830 pounds, and Reicher’s Alana Bettge was second at 181 pounds with a total weight lifted of 870.

Bosqueville’s Brittany Carter, Crawford’s Mikayla Jowers and Whitney’s Ashlyn Wilkerson all claimed bronze medals in their respective divisions.

Friday’s meet consisted of 1A/2A, 3A and 6A competitors. Action in Classes 4A and 5A will get underway Saturday.
